RAWALPINDI Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab Jehanzeb Barki has instructed the Rawalpindi administration and Police to devise a comprehensive security strategy for ensuring effective measures to maintain sectarian harmony and tranquility during Month of Muharram. He expressed these views while addressing a meeting of DCOs, DPOs and other concerned officers of administration of Districts of Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal here on Thursday. The members of Sub-Committee of Punjab Cabinet Sahibzada Fazal Karim MNA, Home Secretary Punjab Nadeem Hasan Asif, Secretary Prosecution Rana Maqbool Ahmed and I.G. Police Punjab Tariq Saleem Dogar also addressed the meeting. Commissioner Rawalpindi Zahid Saeed, RPO, Additional IG. Muhammad Aslam Tareen, CPO DIG Rao Muhammad Iqbal, DCO Imdadullah Bosal and DCOs and DPOs of Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal and other concerned officers attended the meeting and briefed the participants about the arrangements and planning during Muharam. Advisor to CM Punjab Jehanzeb Barki directed that the security plan should be finalised after obtaining proposals from ulemas of all schools of thought, zakreen, elected representatives and office bearers of Aman committees from mohallah to divisional level. He said that senior officers of administration and police should have visited routes and sites of the Azadari processions and majalis before they take place to ensure foolproof security arrangements. Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab said that advance checking of the routes and places of Majalis and processions should be ensured and all security arrangements be finalised with the cooperation of organisers of Azadari processions and majalis. He said that the arrangements of deployment of necessary forces, cleanliness, alternate arrangements of electricity like availability of generators, surveillance, checking of Sabeels and niyaz, use of loudspeakers in accordance with law, and observance of code of conduct be ensured. The members of the Sub-Committee of Punjab Cabinet Sahibzada Fazal Karim MNA, Home Secretary Punjab Nadeem Hasan Asif, Secretary Prosecution Punjab Rana Maqbool Ahmed and IG Punjab Police Tariq Saleem Dogar, addressing the participants of the meeting, assured that all possible resources would be provided to the administration and Police to ensure effective security arrangements. They said that checking of vehicles would be made more vigorous at all levels, especially on the entry points of the border districts linked to NWFP. They said that all SHOs of the Police Stations should hold meeting with the members of the Aman committee at mohallah level to promote sectarian harmony and make arrangements effectively. They said that police should adopt polite attitude while conducting checking of vehicles and coordinated patrolling should also be ensured. They added that the presence of the force should be checked physically by the senior police officers on the sites where it is deployed. The force and security cover should be maintained till the complete disbursement of participants of Muharram processions or majalis, they said. Commissioner Rawalpindi Zahid Saeed, giving a briefing on the arrangements, said that a total of 891 licensed and authorised traditional processions and 3976 majalis are being held in Rawalpindi Division during Muharram and for providing security cover to these majalis and processions, security plan has already been finalised. He said that all necessary arrangements have been chalked out for providing all possible facilities on the routes of the Azadari processions and majalis besides taking measures for discouraging objectionable written, audio and video material. He said that the arrangements and the plan for security would be further improved keeping in view the local requirements and suggestions of the ulema, zakreen, traders associations, members of the aman committees and other segments of society.
