Freeze of 488 accounts ordered

PESHAWAR - The federal government has issued orders for freezing accounts/funds of 396 persons and 92 organisations linked to al-Qaeda and Taliban. Notification No. 1091(I)2010 sent by Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provinces including Khyber Pukhtunkhwa said that the step has been taken in line with the ban put by United Nations Security Council on persons and organisations linked to terror outfits including al-Qaeda and Taliban. A communiqu has been sent to all the stock exchanges, banks and other monetary institutions for following orders about freezing militants and their facilitators accounts. According to the list 137 people linked to Taliban, 259 persons linked to al-Qaeda and 92 organisations who have been charged for facilitating al-Qaeda are among those whose funds and accounts will be frozen immediately. It is pertinent to mention that accounts and funds of over 200 persons and organizations/institutions have already been frozen in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa for their suspected links with Taliban. All the stock exchanges, banks and other monetary institutions across the country have also been directed to keep checking website of United Nations Security Council for any update on ban on such organisations and persons so that they can update their information for immediately freezing their accounts.
