LAHORE Justice (Retd) Dr Javed Iqbal, the son of Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal, said here on Saturday that saving life of one human being was equivalent to saving the entire humanity. Addressing the participants of White Coat Ceremony held at Shaikh Zayed Hospital to welcome third batch of students of the Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Medical and Dental College, Justice (Retd) Dr Javed Iqbal stressed upon the need to improve the spiritual responsibilities which in turn help improve the attitude towards humanbeings. Dr Javed Iqbal was the chief guest. Chairman and Dean Shaikh Zayed Hospital Prof Zafar Iqbal gave a brief introduction of the hospital and said that this institute was started by visionary and progressive people. Their mission was to provide the best treatment to the patients and best medical education to the doctors. Starting from 330 beds, the capacity of the hospital has now reached 713 beds. Justice (Retd) Dr Javed Iqbal said that in 2011, 56713 patients were treated at indoor, 26000 at outdoor and have operated 12510 patients. He claimed that one third of the consultants working in the country were trained by Shaikh Zayed Hospital. Medical and Dental College was approved in 2009. First batch of the institution took first 14 positions out of 15 from Punjab University. This year 3300 candidates applied for 100 seats which mean 35 candidates for one seat. The main attraction in our medical college is best faculty, he said, adding, purpose of this White Coat Ceremony was to make the students realize that this coat symbolizes compassion, care and selfless service for the ailing humanity. He said the students should take keen interest in their studies and improve their academic and clinical capabilities by keeping themselves fully abreast with the latest advancements in medical, health and technology. The white coat was handed over to the 1st year students by 3rd year students.
