LAHORE Shahbaz Sharif has said that the provincial government will provide one lakh laptops to the talented male and female students in the province for which the plan has been worked out. He said country can be put on the road to progress and prosperity by equipping the new generation with modern technology and knowledge and with this aim, the Punjab government is pursuing a comprehensive strategy for promoting information technology (IT). He said that after IT labs, a programme of distribution of one lakh laptops among the students has been chalked out which would be executed in a transparent manner. The CM said this while presiding over a meeting held to review the progress of the programme of distribution of one lakh laptops to the brilliant male and female students of the province at Chief Ministers Secretariat, here Saturday. Provincial Minister for Education Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretaries of Education, Information and Chairman Information Technology Board attended. Shahbaz Sharif said that distribution of laptops is a revolutionary step of the Punjab government which will provide opportunity to the students to benefit from the modern technology and carry out research and educational activities. He said that the promotion of IT is also essential for rapid development and capacity-building of the government departments for which concrete steps have taken. He said that the distribution of one lakh laptops among the talented students will cast far-reaching positive impact on the education sector. He said that the distribution of laptop computers will start soon. Earlier, Planning & Development Chairman and Punjab Information Technology Board Chairman informed about the implementation of laptops distribution programme.
