LAHORE Chief MinisterShahbaz Sharif on Saturday gave approval to the constitution of various committees for improving performance of the police. The committees will present their final recommendations within next three days under a short-term policy in order to obtain immediate results. The CM asked these committees to let the government know about the steps for improving various sectors of the police departments in upcoming weekly meetings. He also directed the Additional IG Traffic for big cities of the province and Chief Traffic Officer Lahore to submit a plan for improving traffic system in their respective areas. The CM said this while presiding over a high level meeting held to review the law and order situation in the province and further improving the performance of police at Chief Ministers Secretariat. Senior Advisor Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, Provincial Ministers Rana Sanaullah Khan, Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, parliamentarians, Chief Secretary, IG Police, Home Secretary and senior officers concerned attended the meeting, which took decisions for further improving performance of the police. The CM said that maintaining law and order and protecting of life and property of the masses is the top priority of the government and no effort will be left in this regard. He directed the police officers for taking solid measures to control crimes, and to hit hard at the gangs involved in various crimes besides apprehending absconders and the accused involved in heinous offences so that a sense of security could be created among the people. The CM appreciated the services of cabinet committee, ministers, elected representatives, ulema, administration and police for maintaining peace during Muharram-ul-Haram and with the grace of Almighty Allah and effective strategy, no untoward incident occurred throughout the province. Shahbaz Sharif said that all police officers have been posted in the field on merit and on the basis of performance and all recruitments have also been made in the department on merit. He directed that a vigorous campaign be launched for apprehending the absconders and culprits involved in heinous crimes in addition to framing a comprehensive strategy to curb heinous crimes like kidnapping for ransom, gang-rape, dacoity, murder, street crime and car-lifting.
