LAHORE The death of a newborn at Lady Willingdon Hospital, blamed on the alleged negligence of doctors, resulted in a protest by the heirs to the deceased baby on Saturday. A baby girl was born to Ahsans wife late on Friday at the aforesaid hospital. At the time of her birth, both the mother and the newborn were in quite stable condition. Later, however, the doctors shifted the baby to the Intensive Care Unit, where the baby started bleeding through her nose and throat. She died minutes afterwards, said a family member, adding that the lady doctor on duty remained busy with her cell phone and did not attend the baby. Early on Saturday, the heirs gathered in front of the hospital and chanted slogans against the doctor. However, on intervention of administrative staff and assurance of an inquiry, they left the hospital and took the dead body with them. Meanwhile, a 27-year-old worker of a restaurant at Allama Iqbal International Airport succumbed to his injuries soon after he sustained multiple wounds in a road accident on the Ring Road. The deceased was identified as Abubakar, a resident of Bhagatpura.
