Shakil elected IRCA chief again

ISLAMABAD - Shakil Shaikh was elected President of Islamabad Regional Cricket Association unopposed for the second consecutive term here on Saturday at Diamond Club Ground, while Dilawar Abbas was elected unopposed Secretary of the Islamabad Region. In the Islamabad Region elections conducted and supervised by PCB Election Commissioner Abdul Sami Khan both Shakil Sheikh and Dilawar Khan got elected unopposed as no other candidate submitted nomination against them. Meanwhile, Dilawar Khan, who is also the Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan Cricket Association, was elected unopposed Secretary Islamabad Region for the first time. The Region comprising Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Northern Areas and Gujrat districts and all the three (President, Secretary-Treasurer) of the respective associations are entitled to exercise right of electing Islamabad Regional office-bearers. Member PCB Board of Governors Naeem Akhtar Gilani, President Rawalpindi Regional Cricket Association, and a large number of supporters of both the elected office-holders were present on the occasion. PCB Coordinator Kashif Zahid was also present. It is to worth mention here that Shakil Sheikh was previously elected as President Islamabad Region in 2007 and had already served as PCB Board of Governors member for two years from 2007 to 2009. Shakil remained instrumental in allocating land from CDA for those grounds which were vacated by CDA for the construction of Faisal Avenue and other under passes, it was Shakil's tireless efforts which compelled CDA to allocate alternate land for the construction of cricket grounds.
