ELLAHABAD

Both the Kasur District Administration and the Education Department seem to have “scant regard” for the orders issued by the Punjab Ombudsman for the installation of water filtration plant in every Govt and private school across Chunian Tehsil.

According to details, a citizen filed an application with the Punjab Ombudsman, submitting that the management of both the govt and private schools should be bound to provide clean drinking water to students in their respective school, complaining water being provided to students in schools was injurious to the health of innocent students. He, along with his application, also submitted report of a water sample he took from a school. The report said that after attesting the water sample, the officials of the said Laboratory declared the water as not fit for human consumption. Consequently, the Ombudsman took serious notice of it and directed the District Administration and the Kasur EDO Education to look into the matter personally and ensure installation of water filtration plants in all schools across Tehsil Chunian, especially in Ellahabad, Bhagiwal and its surrounding areas. But ironically despite lapse of one and half years, both the officials of the Education Department as well as the District Administration appeared indifferent so far and have paid no heed to comply with the Punjab Ombudsman’s orders.

On the other hand, locals have expressed grave concern over the apathy and indifference of the Education department and district administration and questioned why the officials were dragging feet on executing the orders although both the administration and education department were ‘supposed’ to ensure rule of the law.

They demanded the Punjab Ombudsman to take notice of the inefficiency that take stern action against the delinquent officers who were responsible for the negligence.
