ISLAMABAD : Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad told the National Assembly Tuesday that the government has released Rs 16 billion to improve the performance of the national flag carrier. He said this amount is also being used to repair the non-operational ten aircraft of the PIA. The Minister was speaking on a motion of Shaikh Rohail Asghar regarding the performance of Pakistan International Airlines. The Minister of State regretted that the previous government did not take practical steps to steer the airline out of crisis and the steps taken by the present government have helped reduce its losses.

He said we have acquired four aircraft from Turkey on wet lease and four more will be taken on dry lease which will ply on domestic routes and the Gulf countries. The induction of these aircraft will help improve the performance of the PIA and provide best possible traveling facilities to the passengers.
