KARACHI - Former Test paceman Sarfraz Nawaz has said M Talha was the fastest bowler in the country and hot for selection in Pakistan team for Test and one-day series against Sri Lanka. “At the moment Talha is the best bowler in the country and in absence of Irfan, he is the best choice for the selection in the team,” he said in an interview Tuesday. Lanky Talah, who made his Test debut in infamous second Test in Gaddafi Stadium Lahore when Sri Lanka team came under attack on third March 2009, has taken 31 wickets in President’s Trophy for Port Qasim Authority.

“Talha is in the prime form and fitness and taking wickets consistently on domestic circuit,” he said. “Talha is hot and hit the iron when it’s hot,” he said of the 25-year-old fast bowler from Faisalabad. Lean and lanky but quick Talah finished with 11 wickets in the match against ZTBL at Sialkot in President’s Trophy last week.

“I think Talha is in a good rhythm and great future prospect if given chance at this juncture,” Sarfraz, himself a great swing and seam bowler of yesteryears, said. He believed that Talha can admirably fill the gap created with injury to Irfan. He blamed tour management for not taking care of Irfan and over burdening him in Test, ODIs and T20I. In the meantime, former Pakistan captain and PQA coach Rashid Latif has said that Talha is prime form to go into the Pakistan team. “He (Talha) is bowling magnificently and is great material for Pakistan team,” he said.
