ISLAMABAD  - Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) Managing Director has directed stern action against the culprits allegedly involve in a fraud of over Rs 50 million, as some companies got heavy funds from the government without doing any practical work on ground.

Official sources at the gas utility told The Nation that MD has black listed seven contractors of SNGPL and cancelled their contracts following the revelation of above Rs50 million fraud. The MD has further terminated the services of five employees of SNGPL allegedly involve in the release of multi million rupees funds to these seven contractors. Similarly, seven construction companies have so far been black listed in SNGPL that had successfully managed release of heavy amounts from the account of gas utility. The construction firms allegedly involved in the fraud are Orinetal Construction, Five Store Zone 3, Ahsan Ali Engineering, Gul and Sons, Al-Karam, Haideri Engineering and VNHAR International, sources added.

A spokesman of SNGPL confirmed the info by saying that viewing the intensity of crime allegedly committed in connivance with the employees of account section of the gas utility, the MD of gas utility has directed stern action against the culprits.  More, some five concerned officials of the gas utility have also been terminated from services after the revelation of heavy irregularities in the release of worthy funds. FIRs against alleged contractors have also been registered while construction work, which was being made by these contractors, has also been stopped, he added. “Release of above Rs50 million heavy amount to the seven contractors for laying gas pipelines in the jurisdiction of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) was made without evaluating the work performance of the companies,” a senior official at SNGPL said, adding, “Alleged seven contractors have gotten heavy funds without laying single inch gas pipeline in the target area.”

The sources also told that audit of the accounts of gas utility (SNGPL) has made this ‘fraud’ very clear that heavy above Rs50 million was released to the contractors who did nothing.
