SIALKOT - Hundreds of MQM activists Wednesday staged demonstrations and sit-ins in various parts of the city, protesting against the target killing of party’s district vice president Bao Muhammad Anwar.

The MQM also observed complete strike in Sialkot city against the brutal murder. Some of the party workers kept the traffic blocked for several hours by placing body of Bao on Shahabpura Road, besides, burning tyres on several inter-city roads. The protesters, who were holding banners and placards, chanted anti-government slogans and demanded immediate arrest of the killers.

43-year-old Bao Muhammad Anwar was laid to rest in his native graveyard in Sialkot amid tight security. A large number of people from all walks of life including MQM MNAs Abdul Wasim and MQM Punjab president Mian Attiq attended the funeral.

Local MNA Ch Armughan Subhani also visited the house of Bao Muhammad Anwar and deeply condoled with the grieved family.

According to the post-mortem report, Bao Anwar received at least 13 bullets, which caused his death.

According to the details,  three unknown armed motorcyclists targeted Bao Anwar when he was standing outside his fast food outlet in the city’s congested Shahabpura locality here late at Tuesday night. Two other MQM activists Munir Ahmed and Muhammad Younas also sustained injuries in the attack.  

They were hurried to Govt Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching Hospital Sialkot, where their condition was stated to be critical.

Police said that no reason behind the murder has yet been ascertained. Police claimed that special police teams led by senior officials have been raiding at various places for early arrest of the killers.

Hajipura police have registered a case (No.731/2014) under sections 302 and 324/34 PPC against three unknown armed motorcyclists, who sprayed bullets there, killing MQM Sialkot leader on the spot. Police have registered this case on the report of Shabbir, the brother of slain Bao Muhammad Anwar, with no arrest, in this regard.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of the murder, directing Sialkot police to ensure arrest of the killers within next 12 hours.

Meanwhile, MQM Chief Altaf Hussain, in his condolence message to the grieved family from London, strongly condemned the murder, demanding immediate arrest of the killers.

MQM Liaison Committee in his meeting has termed the assassination as target killing of the party workers, besides, strongly criticising the government for remaining failed in protecting the lives and properties of the citizens.
