TOBA TEK SINGH-The tehsil administration has imposed Rs190,000 fine on the owners of five sugarcane purchasing points for exploiting the poor farmers on Sunday.

During his surprise visit to the purchasing centres, the assistant commissioner found that some of them were working without any legal permission and some others were paying only Rs 135 per 40 kg to the sugarcane growers in violation of government’s notified rate Rs180 per 40 kg.

Those fined were from Kanjwani sugar mills Tandlianwala, Rasool Nawaz sugar Mills Samundri and the others as they were operating illegal purchase centres. The AC told reporters that illegal purchasers were also depriving the government of the sugarcane road cess fund of Rs 1.50 per 40kg and carriage charges of Rs0.50 per km against the purchasing of 40kg of sugarcane.

He added that lawful purchasers are required to have an authority letter from mills concerned, a notification duly issued by Punjab Cane Commissioner reflecting name of that operator and a clearance certificate from District Officer Industries, weights and measures. He claimed that DC Irfan Nawaz Memon had ordered a crackdown on all such sugarcane purchasers who were exploiting the poor farmers of the district.

PROTEST: Scores of religious parties’ activists took out a protest rally at against US President Donald Trump’s planned move to relocate the US embassy from Tel Aviv to al-Quds. It started from Kamal Chowk and ended at Shahbaz Chowk after passing through different roads. In their speeches, Maulana Samsuzzaman Qadri and other speakers urged the Muslim countries to unite on a single platform to confront the conspiracies of anti-Islam forces.
