BAHAWALPUR – The crime rate in Bahawalpur division during year 2011 decreased significantly and the recovery ratio of narcotics, weapons and looted items also increased due to efficient policing techniques adopted by the police.

Regional Police Officer Capt (r) Syed Abid Qadri said that the commitment and devotion of the personnel of Bahawalpur Division Police despite several constraints made them successful against the criminal elements last year. During 2011, massive campaign against crime brought about positive results and about 8,087 Proclaimed Offenders had been arrested while 12 criminals were killed in 24 police shootouts while 3 cops were martyred.

He said that a total of 38,040 cases of different nature were registered across the division and police arrested 60,003 culprits involved in various crimes. While recovery of Rs82 million was also made from these nabbed culprits. They also busted 137 criminal gangs during 2011.

He disclosed that heavy quantity of arms, ammunition, drugs and stolen bikes and cars side by side cattle heads were recovered from the criminals while 87 policemen including 5 Sub-Inspectors, one ASI were suspended from service under different charges.

He said the main reason behind the success was the strategy of community and vigilant policing and efforts would continue to ensure protection of the life and property of the common man.

Seerat conference To: commemorate the sacred life of Holy Prophet (PBUH) as a constant source of guidance for the mankind, The City School (Boys Branch) will hold Seertun Nabi (PBUH) Conference and Na'at Competition on Friday (tomorrow) as a part of Eid Miladun Nabi celebrations.

Elaborated arrangements have been made to facilitate the participants and the guests. Prominent scholars will judge the Na'at Competition.
