LAHORE - In what could be termed an indirect affirmation that government is not going to write letter to the Swiss court, Federal Minister for Defence, Ch Ahmad Mukhtar on Friday said that Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani was not afraid of jails and ready to face imprisonment once again if the court so desired. ‘Gilani had been in the prison in the past and is ready to go to jail again because he has no fears about imprisonment’, he said while talking to reporters after performing inauguration of extension plan of party’s Faisal Town office here. The Prime Minister is scheduled to appear before the Supreme Court on Feb 13th to be formally indicted by the court for not writing the letter in question. Defence Minister’s statement is reflective of government’s persistent defiant mood vis-à-vis the court verdict.Talking about the memo scandal, he said that it had no basis and this was the reason that PML-N President Mian Nawaz Sharif left for London after knowing that this scandal had no substance.Replying to a question, Mukhtar challenged Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan (he called the latter Tsunami Khan) to contest the coming election from his constituencies in Gujrat if they were so confident of their popularity. He dared PPP opponents, saying that his party would also sweep the next elections with peoples support.   To a question about Shah Mahmood Qureshi, he said that ‘little kids’ were trying to teach politics to the PPP. He said it was the biggest mistake of President Asif Ali Zardari to make Shah Mahmood a leader.‘Had he (Zardari) not made him a leader he would have been wandering in Multan’s streets to be noticed’, he stated.Earlier, addressing the ceremony, he said that he wanted to donate Rs 5 million to the party secretly for extension plan of its Faisal Town office; but  Safdar Warraich insisted on making it public and organised this event.  He said he was ready to donate another 5 million if the party needed funds for any purpose. Federal Minister, Samina Khalid Ghurki, Imtiaz Safdar Warraich, Samiullah Khan, Dr Hasnaat Shah, Aurangzeb Burki, Iqbal Sialvi and a number of PPP workers were present on the occasion.
