ISLAMABAD - The journalists covering the Senate and the National Assembly have staged a protest walkout from the press gallery for manhandling two of their colleagues by the lower staff of the Lower House over a petty issue of parking a motorcycle in the parking area.The two journalists told their colleagues that the drivers of the National Assembly Secretariat manhandled, thrashed and abused them for parking their bike in the parking area where the unused vehicles of the secretariat were parked. One of these journalists said that drivers manhandled them just after they were told that the secretary NA had forbidden to park motorcycles in the area. It is fact that a large number of motorcycles were parked there at the time of the incident as the place is specified for parking.Later, the parliamentary reporters ended the protest after Deputy Speaker National Assembly, Fasil Karim Kundi, who was chairing the session, directed the secretary NA to hold an inquiry, take action and suggest measures so that no such incident could take place in future.Prior to this, Information Minister, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, speaking on appoint of order on the floor of the House, asked the deputy speaker NA to hold an inquiry on the issue. She also assured the journalists in the press gallery that their grievances in connection with the coverage the coverage of the National Assembly and the Senate would be removed at every cost. She also said that show cause notices would be issued to the drivers who misbehaved with the two journalists.
