LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that it is highly unfortunate for the nation that looters are sitting in the corridors or power while the masses are in the lurch of abject poverty. Corruption among the rulers in the centre is wide spread and rampant and the time has come to throw the corrupt out and purge the country of this menace.

The CM said he was committed to serve the nation and strive for the welfare and betterment of the common man and he would adhere to this resolve till his last.

He said if the nation has to survive, it will have to rely on its own resources and get rid of the charity of Aghyaar. He said military and political governments had not been able to come up to the expectations of the masses during the last 64 years and it was for the first time that the dream of the labourers, peasants, the poor and the common man of having their own house had been translated into reality through Aashiyana housing scheme.

“Houses equipped with the latest residential facilities have been constructed in Aashiyana Scheme and being given to the common people and these schemes are an important step toward transforming Pakistan as was envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal,” he added.

Shahbaz Sharif said Punjab government served the public with the spirit of worship. He said the dictator toppled democracy on 12 October 1999 and pushed the country to corruption, terrorism, extremism and disaster. He said merit was flouted while nepotism was promoted. He said corruption and plundering was rampant in the country and national resources were being looted ruthlessly. He said it was highly unfortunate that those who looted the hard-earned money of the people were sitting in the power corridors. He said due to loot and plundering of the rulers the rich were becoming richer while the poor were sliding deeper and deeper into the abyss of poverty.

Earlier, Chairman Punjab Land Development Company Sheikh Allauddin said Aashiyana Scheme was being implemented successfully due to cooperation and interest being taken by the chief minister. He said the extension project at Saroba Atari had also been started and it would bring about a revolution in the lives of the people.
