SIALKOT - About 1,100 students of two government schools of girls and boys in Badiana, Pasrur are getting education while sitting on the ground in cold weather under the open sky as these schools have been being run without classrooms and furniture for the last 16 and 15 years respectively.

Local notables said that the Government Boys Higher Secondary School Badiana was upgraded to higher secondary level some 15 years ago. Since then, there had been no teachers for the higher classes, no furniture or building. The school has no headmaster as well, they added, saying that the students were forced to get education while sitting on ground of the high school portion of the old building. They pointed out that the same situation was also there in the Government Girls Higher Secondary School Badiana. The notables added that the girls' school had been upgraded to higher secondary level in 1996. Since then the school has no building, no teachers, no headmistress, no furniture and without the other basic facilities.

The notables added that both of the Government higher secondary schools have no building since their upgradation.

They said that they repeatedly brought the situation into the notice of the local political representatives and concerned officials of Sialkot education department, but all these efforts proved futile. The notables included Haji Noor Hussain, Naeem Ahmed Butt, Abdul Rehman Sheikh, Shafaaqat Ali Ansari, Jamshaid Gujjar, M Afzal Gujjar, Hameed Gujjar, Hafiz M Aslam, Nazar Hussain Butt, Zahid Afzaal Mughal, M Aslam Mughal and Shahid Sohail.
