ISLAMABAD - The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended on February 09, for the lowest income group up to Rs 8,000, has registered nominal decrease of 0.04 percent over the previous week.

The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 169.48 points against 169.54 points of the previous week, according to provisional figures of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007 2008=100, covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.

SPI for the combined group registered decrease of 0.06 percent as it declined from 178.62 points in the previous week to 178.51 points in the week under review. As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review witnessed increase of 8.23 percent.

As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs.8001 12,000, 12,001 to 18,000, 18001 to 35,000 and above Rs.35,000 decreased by 0.03 percent, 0.05 percent, 0.06 percent and 0.07 percent respectively.

During the week under review, average prices of 15 items registered decrease, while that of 19 items increase with the remaining 19 items’ prices unchanged. The items which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week under review included tomatoes, cigarettes, gur, onions, egg hen (farm), moong pulse (washed), chicken live (farm), bath soap, mash pulse (washed), potatoes, sugar, red chillies, rice (basmati broken), wheat and masoor pulse (washed).

The items which registered increase in their prices included LPG (11 kg cylender), long cloth, lawn, bananas, firewood, mutton, kerosene, tea (prepared), cooked beef, rice (irri-6), curd, energy savor (14 watts), milk (fresh), gram pulse (washed), shirting, garlic, mustard oil, beef and vegetable ghee (loose).

The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included wheat flour (bag), bread (plain), milk (powdered), cooking oil (tin), vegetable ghee (tin), salt (powdered), tea (packet), cooked dal, georgette, sandal (gents), chappal, sandal (ladies), electric charges, gas charges (up to 100m3), washing soap, match box, petrol, diesel, telephone local call.
