ISLAMABAD - A paleontology team of the Department of Zoology of the Punjab University discovered nine million years old hominid fossils from Nagri Village, in the district of Chakwal.
The research team headed by Prof Dr Akhtar along with faculty members including Dr Akbar Khan, Dr Abdul Majid Khan and PhD research students while working in the vicinity of the Nagri village has discovered the teeth of the extinct hominids along with other mammalian fossils.
Dr Akhtar said that the discovered fossils remains of the hominid group would held in identifying the type of hominoids living in the region in the prehistoric times.
This discovery would help in tracing the evolutionary history of the hominoid group in the Siwalik region as well as the South Asia.
SEMINAR: PU External Linkages Director and Institute of Languages Incharge Assistant Prof Dr Maria Isabel Maldanado and Law College Lecturer Imran Alam on Monday organized a seminar on Erasmus Mundus scholarships for Pakistani students at Environmental Law Auditorium.
Dr Maldonado in her presentation told the students that they have choice of several universities in Germany, Sweden, Finland, Portugal, Croatia and Czech Republic.
She said that University of the Punjab was a partner in the Erasmus Mundus project Experts4, where students could apply for 1 year mobility program for undergraduate students, 1 year mobility for Masters, 2 years for Masters, PhD programs as well as Postdocs.
PHD DEGREES: PU has awarded 02 PhD degrees to the scholars in which Muzammal Iftikhar S/o Iftikhar Ahmad in the subject of Mathematics after approval of his thesis entitled “Series Solutions of Seventh Order Boundary Value Problems” and Rauf Attique Babri S/o Atique Ullah Babri in the subject of Chemistry after approval of his thesis entitled “Studies of Essential Oils of Plant Family Umbelliferae”.
