Swabi - Renowned scientist Dr Samar Mubarakmand said that there was an urgent need of result-oriented and long-term vision to overcome economic and political crises.

Speaking as a chief guest in the prize distribution ceremony of All Pakistan TechFest Conference at the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, he said that the reason Pakistan lags behind in various fields and facing serious problems was absence of a long-term vision.

The Society of Mechanical Engineers of Pakistan (SMEP), GIK Institute Student Chapter organised the event which was graced by scholars and students of engineering universities from all over the country. At arrival to the institute auditorium Dr Samar received warm welcome. When he completed his speech, he received standing ovation.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that despite numerous difficulties and problems Pakistan had made significant achievements in science and technology, including peaceful nuclear technology. “We hope that Pakistanis who work abroad will one day comeback home and serve their country,” he said.

He spoke in detail about the minerals and regions where they could be found in Pakistan. He also said that how much the copper, coal, zinc and other prized minerals could help to boost Pakistan’s economy and make it economically vibrant and politically strong country. 

Dr Samar said that we should utalise our copper. “If we succeeded to use our copper we could export its products to the world, earning foreign exchange on one hand and saving the budget which we spend on import of copper materials on the other,” he said.

He declared that at the end of current year electricity generation would be started by Thar Project.  “This electricity will be generated by using gas produced by Underground Coal Gasification (UCG),” he said.

Dr Muhammad Abid praised Dr Samar Mubarak for his numerous contribution and services to Pakistan.

Ahmad Nabi, SMEP Coordinator also spoke on occasion. Dr Samar gave away prizes and certificates to outstaying participants.
