KARACHI  - Muttahida Qaumi Movement submitted a petition in the Sindh High Court on Monday regarding the ‘unlawful arrest’ of MQM worker Fahad Aziz.

Aziz’s relatives accompanied the MQM leaders to the court.

The petition, filed by MQM’s central leader Dr Farooq Sattar, stated the party man was arrested over ‘baseless’ charges without his nomination in any FIR and was ‘brutally’ tortured in police custody.

The petitioner prayed to the court to take action against the police officers involved. The MQM leader also called for formation of a medical board to determine the worker’s condition and sought compensation for the accused.

The MQM worker was arrested by the police on February 8 and was released on bail the next day. Sattar said an FIR should be registered against AIG Shahid Hayat, Senior Superintendent of Police East Pir Shah and the SHO Shah Faisal police station over their alleged involvement in the arrest. Referring to the arrests of MQM members as “witch-hunting”, Sattar said the unreasonable arrests of MQM members need to stop.
