KARACHI - Station House Officer (SHO) of Mubina Town police station was arrested for his alleged involvement in kidnapping for ransom here on Wednesday.

Police station chief among four more suspects were arrested in separate raids by the investigation wing of the Malir City police.

SHO Zafar Abbas and his private companion Manzur Shah were arrested during a raid in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Malir City DSP Qamar Ahmed confirmed the arrest, saying the accused persons are involved in kidnapping and collecting ransom from a transporter namely Abdul Raheem. The officer said SHO Abbas along with his companions had abducted a transporter and later released him after getting over Rs6.8 million on December 18 last. “Since then, the complainant is in constant fear and reluctant to register a case,” the officer explained. “The complainant decided to lodge an FIR against him when his family forced him to register a case.” He said an FIR No 24/16 under Section 342, 384, 385, 386 and 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act was registered against the accused persons on February 8, 2016 and later police arrested them. Another accused person Roshan Solangi, who exposed himself as a DSP in the Sindh Police, is still at large.

DSP Ahmed further said Rs1 million had so far been recovered on the information provided by the arrested accused while efforts were being made for the arrest of remaining suspects involved.

Separately, Special Investigation Unit of the Karachi police claimed to have arrested a suspect during a raid conducted at Pak Colony. The accused person was identified as Shahzado Sattar. SIU chief SP Farooq Awan said the accused, from district Jacobabad, was arrested along with weapons and ammunition. He escaped from the lockup of Thull police station of Jacobabad. He was wanted in several cases in Jacobabad. Separately, police also arrested two notorious target killers after an encounter. Police tried to intercept two suspects riding a motorcycle when the police team was busy doing snap-checking at Rashid Minhas Road. The accused arrested were identified as Ghulam Qadir Baloch and Fida Baloch. Weapons were also recovered from their possession. SHO Naeem Khan said they were wanted to the Malir City police in over half dozen cases of target killings, attempt to murder and police encounters. Police are also trying to ascertain their links with the gangster groups. Cases against them were registered. Further investigation is underway.

On the other side, a notorious street criminal has been arrested after an exchange of fire at Rahid Minhas Road within the jurisdictions of Federal B Industrial Area police station. Weapon and cell phones were also recovered from his possession. SHO Naeem Khan said the accused was arrested after an exchange of fire. The accused, during initial course of interrogation, revealed to have been involved in various cases of snatching of cell phones on gunpoint. Police said the accused was associated with a political party. Moreover, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), team conducted a raid and arrested two accused along with counterfeit products of popular brand of chocolate and packaging material from a factory in Site area here on Wednesday.

The FIA team took action on FIA lodged by a famous chocolate manufacturer, said a statement. The team arrested the owner of factory namely Waseem Anwer and his manager namely Khalid Rasheed. A large quantity of packaging material including packing roll, plastic and other items were also seized. The FIA team is also conducting raids in search of an alleged partner of the owner of the factory, the statement added.


The DIG Hyderabad suspended two SHOs of Jamshoro district and ordered registration of FIRs against both while acting on a court’s order.

Jamshoro police station SHO Zawar Hussain and SHO Kotri police station Nazar Deeshak had allegedly kept two persons in their respective police stations in illegal confinement and also subjected them to torture. Implementing on the orders of the District and Session Court Jamshoro against the two SHOs, the DIG ordered registration of FIRs against Hussain and Deeshak in their police stations.

Hussain was booked on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Taufeeq Bughio under sections 342, 355, 337 and 220 of CrPC while Deeshak was nominated in the FIR containing similar sections on Sub-Inspector Rao Nasir’s complaint. After suspending SHO Hussain and SHO Deeshak, the DIG handed over the temporary charge of the police stations to SI Bughio at Jamshoro police station and SI Nasir at Kotri police station.
