PML-N to press govt for ‘respecting’ SC

LAHORE - PML-N leaders say by defying the judicial verdicts, the government is playing gruesome game of undermining the authority of a vital state organ and creating chaos.
However, they say that their party has ways to pressure the government to enforce the SC verdicts.
PML-N Information Secretary Senator Mushahidullah Khan has said that his party will pressure the government on every forum to make it act upon the SC verdicts.
He termed the government behaviour on the SC decisions unbecoming of a democratic government, saying that by disobeying the court orders, the government intends to create instability and chaos in the country.
Mushahid said the PML-N stands by the Judiciary on the question of honouring its decisions as defiance by the PPP is bound to hit a vital institution as well as making the country a banana republic.
“Making mockery of the court orders is equal to weakening fabric of a state organ and betraying the nation.” He said the government has no escape from implementation as the PML-N will build public pressure as well as pressure in the assemblies to get the SC orders implemented.
Referring to a standing demand of the PML-N for fresh election, he said the degree of corruption practiced by the PPP has damaged the country in every respect and the overall failure allows no room for the PPP to stay on as the ruling party.
He said his party wants Prime Minister (Yousuf Raza Gilani) to consult Leader of the Opposition in NA Ch Nisar Ali Khan to work out modalities for early elections which, according to him, does not mean concession on the execution of SC decisions.
Reacting to the statement of Babar Awan that PPP has no role in the NRO but Pervez Musharraf, he said: “It’s a white lie as the PPP wanted to see Musharraf as president with Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.”
“How can the PPP be absolved of NRO guilt?” Mushahidullah said the PPP is habitual of getting decisions of its choice through the judges of its choice who were not available in the present independent judiciary.
PML-N Deputy Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal said that the PPP rulers are playing a dangerous game by defying the SC decisions.
Terming the NRO a black law, he said though the PPP partners in the government had not approved the same in the Parliament, the PPP has been ignoring the implementation of NRO verdict for over two years.
Ahsan said the SC only wanted the government to write to the Swiss authorities for reopening cases after the protection to them under the NRO has been lifted by way of nullification of the NRO.
He said if the government claims that the cases before Swiss courts against (President) Zardari are false, why it is scared of writing to the Swiss authorities?
He said the PPP cannot defend Zardari before the Swiss courts.
Ahsan said the decisive moment has come as the corrupt rulers in the Centre cannot cover up their crimes and 180 million Pakistanis will not tolerate their corruption and wrongdoings anymore.
MNA Ch Naseer Bhutta said the SC has given the government another opportunity to implement its decision on NRO.
He said the government has no escape from acting on the NRO decision even if the prime minister or another quits the office. The SC has set the line of action which it could adopt in future, he added.
