QUETTA - Over 400 internally-displaced people from Dera Bugti staged a protest outside the Hub Press Club on Tuesday, demanding the government step up efforts for their rehabilitation in Dera Bugti.

The protesters were carrying placards inscribed with different demands. Addressing the protesters, Rasho Khan Bugti, Muhammad Hassan Bugti and others said more than 80,000 people had been displaced after the operation in 2006.

A large number of Bugti families were living different parts of Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan without shelter and food, they said, adding that despite claims of government that IDPs would be rehabilitated but no practical efforts had been made in this connection so far. They said neither the government nor any NGO had come to help them in camps in Hub. Due to lack of food and portable water a large number of children was suffering from different diseases, they said, adding that the PPP govt had allocated Rs1 billion for the rehabilitation of Bugti IDPs under  Balochistan package, but the fund was being misused.
