LAHORE – Almost half of the City’s residential areas on Tuesday faced severe low gas pressure while complete gas shutdown was also witnessed in some of the areas.

The people were complaining against low pressure in days when the CNG stations of Lahore region were observing gas holidays.

An official of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited seeking anonymity, said the Company was facing more than 800 million cubic feet per day shortfall in its network. He informed that the SNGPL was getting gas about 1,800MMCFD while the demand was crossing the digit of 2,600MMCFD.

Interestingly, in the prevailing situation, the SNGPL is going to restore gas for Punjab industry on Wednesday (today).

Hundreds of people staged a demonstration in Shadbagh against the unavailability of gas. The protesters including women and children blocked the traffic and shouted slogans against the SNGPL. Carrying empty pots in their hands, they threatened to encircle the SNGPL office if the situation remained same in the area.  Reportedly, gas pressure was low in Garhi Shahu, Baghwanpura, Cantt area, Railways’ Colonies, Johar Town, Green Town, Mozang and Allama Iqbal Town.  Tayyab Irfan, a resident of Patyala House, near GOR-1, informed this scriber that his family and neighbours were sitting hungry as there was not gas in their area.
