LAHORE – Besides the restoration of the separate status of Bahawalpur, the people of South Punjab and Hazara have been demanding separate provinces.

The MQM that wants division of country on ethnic basis along with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani despite ignoring the constitutional limitations have been doing things in much hurry that might be fatal for the country. The establishment of new provinces may take place on the basis of administration not ethnic basic.

These views were expressed by Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Liaqat Baloch, Awami National Party (ANP) Secretary General Ehsan Wyne PML-N MPA Zaeem Qadri, PML-Functional leader Sultan Mehmood and PPP Punjab Secretary General Samiullah Khan while talking to TheNation Forum here on Tuesday.

Liaqat Baloch said that Pakistan was federation and boundaries of the provinces could be changes according to situational factor.

However, he held that the creation of any province on ethnic bases would weak the federation.

Wyne criticised the MQM saying Mutthida wanted to divide Punjab and Khyber Pk on ethnic basis and after that it would hatch conspiracy for the division of Sindh.

The speakers said that MQM wanted country’s division on ethnic basis and then to make Karachi as a separate province adding the present stance of MQM to divide Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Pakistan is a federation consisting of many provinces that could further be divided into more provinces on administrative grounds.

The tragedy, they said was that some forces make every issue conflicting including the construction of Kalabagh Dam and the establishment of new provinces.

The Zia and Musharraf martial laws created inferiority complex among the small provinces. All the parties should reach a consensus on all the conflicting issues including the creation of provinces. The need is to move on the issues abiding by law and constitution, the speakers said.
