LAHORE - National Bank of Pakistan crushed FATA by 23-0 on the opening day of the National Under-21 Hockey Championship here at National Hockey Stadium on Tuesday.

In other matches of the day, Pakistan Railways beat Pak Boards 2-0, PHF Academy defeat Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 3-0 and Wapda routed Punjab White 6-1.

In a one-sided match between NBP and FATA, the bankers led the first half 12-0. Ayub Ali was superb with sticks as he hammered superb seven goals including a hat-trick and was ably assisted by M Dilber who netted five goals including a hat-trick, Khurram Shahzad who hit three goals, Kashif Javed who smashed four goals, Zohaib Azeem Khan who scored two goals and Arslan Qadir who added one in the banker's big-margin victory.

Director General Sports Board Punjab Usman Anwar inaugurated the event while organising secretary Rana Mujahid Ali, tournament director Saghir Ahmed, Olympian Khawaja Junaid, Olympian Anjum Saeed, Olympian M Usman and officials of DHA Lahore were also present on the occasion.

In other matches of the day, Railways led the first half 1-0 before beating Pak Board with the addition of another goals in the following session. For Railways, Ateeq Arshad and Akbar Ali scored one goal each.

In another match of the day, PHF Academy were 1-0 at interval against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and improved the level of their game to add two more goals for a comfortable success. For PHF Academy, the leading scorers were Mudassar Ali, Mawadit Ali and M Ali Khan.

In the last match of the day, Wapda wrapped up the first half 4-0 over Punjab Whites and maintained their superior run in the following session to outpace their rivals.  Captain of Wapda M Irfan slammed two goals and Aleem Bilal also netted two while M Suleman and Asad added one goal each. Arslan scored lone goal for the losers.  Today's fixtures: Army vs Islamabad, SSGC vs Sindh, Higher Education Commission vs Balochistan.
