NRO verdict: Cabinet reposes confidence in PM, President

The federal cabinet on Wednesday reposed confidence in President and Prime Minster in the wake of Supreme Court’s warning to the bigwigs in NRO implementation case.
According to a private television channel, the cabinet, met here in Islamabad with Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani in chair, decided to stand firm against the SC warning to disqualify president and prime minister from office for disobeying its orders to re-open high profile corruption cases.
The court gave the government a one-week deadline to move forward stalled corruption proceedings against President Asif Ali Zardari and others but made no ruling, only outlining options to be reviewed by a larger panel of judges.
In Wednesday’s session, the cabinet reposed its confidence in PM Gilani and President Zardari as the premier briefed ministers over the court decision and government’s measures to implement the verdict in the case of so-called National Reconciliation Ordinance promulgated by former president Pervez Musharraf.
Sources said the cabinet also mulled over key political issues, including holding of Senate and general elections before the time.
