SHEIKHUPURA/SARGODHA/PASRUR/SAHIWAL/KHANPUR - Eight persons were killed and 34 others sustained multiple injuries in various incidents of violence and mishaps over the past 24 hours. As per detail, two men were killed and two others injured when a car was struck by a Lahore-bound train at railway crossing near Grohan Wali Bhalike here the other day.

Ashiq Ali, Muhammad Arshad, Junaid and Iqbal, resident of village Mianwali Dogran were on the way to city in a car.

However, when they reached at railway crossing, they could not see passenger train coming from Karachi due to dense fog which hit.

As a result Ashiq and Arshad were killed instantly while Junaid and Iqbal received critical injuries and were shifted to DHQ Hospital.

The bodies and the injured were pulled out of the vehicle after cutting the car doors.

Meanwhile, more than one dozen road accidents were reported on different roads of the district, causing loss of vehicles and minor injuries to the commuters particularly in school timing due to heavy fog. The fog blanketed the entire district in the wee hours. The traffic police high ups advised the drivers to use yellow reflectors in their vehicles during fog timing to avoid mishaps.

In SARGODHA, three persons including an elderly woman committed suicide in different incidents in and around of the city.

According to police, 20-year-old Muhammad Usman, a resident of Mustafaabad, Sahiwal Tehsil committed suicide by taking poisonous pills over a domestic dispute.

In the second incident, an elderly woman identified as 70-year-old Balqees Bibi, a resident of Kotmomin ended her life by taking poisonous substance over a family dispute. Similarly, Zulfiqar Ali, a resident of village Miani committed self-immolation over a family dispute.

Similarly in PASRUR, a truck-motorcycle collision killed one and left two others injured. According to details, a loaded truck P-2622 was coming to Pasrur from Sialkot. When it reached near Khui Stop on Pasrur-Sialkot Road, a motorcycle with three riders was appeared all of sudden and collapsed with the truck. Resultantly one of the motorcyclists Rafaqat died on the spot while the other two namely Muhammad Ghaffar and Nasir, resident of village Kot Kalal sustained injuries. The police impounded the truck and shifted the injured to the hospital.

In SAHIWAL, one person was killed while 30 others sustained injuries, six of whom in a critical condition, when a bus overturned due to speeding here on Thursday.

 According to details, a passenger bus JA-5005 was on the way to Arifwala when it overturned while overtaking another vehicle due to speeding. Rescue 1122 rushed the injured to District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ).

Meanwhile in KHANPUR, a motorcyclist was killed by a speeding trailer here on Thursday. The incident occurred when a motorcyclist was standing on national highway, some 33-km from here. In the meantime, a speeding trailer ran over him, killing him on the spot. The deceased was identified as Abdul Qadir Awaisi. Police have registered a case.
