Army, LEAs determined to uprooting terrorism

MULTAN - Corps Commander Lt-Gen Abid Pervez said on Thursday that the country was faced with the challenge of terrorism but Pakistan Army and other law enforcement agencies were determined to uproot the menace.
Addressing army officers and jawans on occasion of a mock anti-terrorism exercise conducted by police commandoes trained by the Pakistan Army, the Corps Commander further said that the entire nation pinned high hopes on Army and other law enforcement agencies. "Now it is your responsibility to come up to the expectations of masses and turn Pakistan into a peaceful and prosperous country," he added. He said that the Pakistan Army not only built its own professional capacity but also imparted training to the Police and other law enforcement agencies to counter terrorism.
Earlier, the Corps Commander watched the anti-terrorism drill conducted by a contingent of police commandoes trained by the Pakistan Army. It may not be out of place to mention here that Pakistan Army imparts anti-terrorism commando training to police across the country and recent drill was part of this programme.
Civilian and police officers including Commissioner Multan Khurram Agha, SSP Operations Gohar Nafees were also present on this occasion.
GILANI, MAKHDOOM ADDRESS PUBLIC MEETING TODAY: Former prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani and Punjab Governor Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood will address a public gathering after inaugurating development projects here at Qila Qasim Bagh on Friday (today). This was disclosed by the speakers during a joint meeting of PPP Multan office-bearers and parliamentarians to review arrangements for the upcoming event.
Speaking on the occasion, MNA Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani, MPA Usman Bhatti, city president Khurshid Khan, general secretary M Salim Raja, Saleemur Rehman Meyo and others said that the federal government released funds worth billions during Gilani regime for the execution of projects at Qila Qasim Bagh.
They criticized the Punjab government, accusing it of creating hurdles in way of projects. "Despite all problems created by the Punjab government, Multan has become one of the biggest cities of Punjab, thanks to the efforts made by Yousuf Raza Gilani," they said. They said that the public meeting would be a show of power by the PPP.
Referring to Seraiki Province, they said that the party high command and standing committee were working out this issue and Multan would be made the capital of this province. They said that the PPP had started preparations for the Election 2013 and it would sweep polls in entire country. They claimed that the PPP leadership laid the foundation stone of Seraiki Province by launching South Punjab faction of the party.
