PESHAWAR - KPK Governor, Barrister Masood Kausar, has said that the institutions of higher learning need to play a proactive role in promoting healthy discussions on issues confronting the nation and help the policy makers in getting them resolved amicably. He was talking to the newly elected office-bearers of the Peshawar University Teachers Association who called on him under the leadership of its President, Jamil Ahmad at Governor’s House Peshawar. The governor who is also the chancellor of the university further stated, “I am staunch believer of the fact that wisdom comes from universities and am confident that they would come upto the expectations”. Besides the Vice Chancellor of the university Prof Dr Qibla Ayaz, the provincial secretary Higher Education, Farah Hamed Khan was also present on this occasion.Appreciating the decision of Peshawar University Teachers Association for holding conference on “Role of Academic Staff Associations in Promotion of Higher Education”, the governor said, “people also do realize the need of effective contribution in ensuring their socio-economic well-being and there has to be a conscious effort in developing an environment at the campuses, wherein they could effectively supplement the efforts of the government in realizing this cherished objective. Talking on various points, the governor said, indeed intolerance leads to breed violence and the role of educational institutions in promoting constructive social norms in the society is also of great importance. The state of educational activities in universities of the province at present, he added, has a positive effect on ensuring balanced construction of personalities particularly the female segment of the society, which, he added, is a good sign as far as the objective of socio-economic uplift of the society is concerned. In response to a request from the delegation, the governor also conceded the proposal to constitute a committee headed by provincial secretary Higher Education and comprising vice chancellors of the Peshawar based public sector universities to bring further improvement in the academic atmosphere at the campuses. The governor also assured to help the association in making the proposed moot a real success. Meanwhile, Jamil Ahmad and his colleagues while highlighting their point of views also thanked the governor for his keen interest in ensuring better academic environment at the campus.Meanwhile, the visiting President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Muhammad Yaqub Khan who was on a daylong visit to the provincial metropolitan called on the Barrister Masood Kausar at Governor’s House, Peshawar on Thursday. He remained with the governor for sometime and discussed matters of mutual interest. Both the dignitaries also exchanged views on the importance of close proximity of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province with the state of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and the potential opportunities for ensuring well being of the respective people. The Governor while expressing thanks for the courtesy call also assured the distinguished guest every possible support and cooperation in making this possible.Provincial Minister Shujah Salem Khan who is also the member of the provincial assembly from District Mansehra was present on this occasion.
