MULTAN - The Punjab Health department is going to regularise the services of Lady Health Supervisors (LHSs) and Lady Health Workers (LHWs). This was disclosed by EDO Health Dr Iftikhar Qureshi while addressing the health workers here on Thursday. He added that the lady health workers would be entitled to all perks and privileges offered to government workers. Acknowledging the services of Lady Health Supervisors and Lady Health Workers, he said that they gave identity to the Health Department. "It is these workers who effectively disseminated the message of health department on contagious and deadly diseases door to door," he added. Earlier, addressing a farewell function held in honour of Assistant Coordinator National Programme Yasmeen Waseem, the EDO said that honest, dedicated and hard working workers were pride of the department, asking other workers to uphold the traditions set by Yasmeen Waseem.

Speaking on this occasion, medical superintendent of Nishtar Hospital Dr Javed Umar, DHO Dr Shahid Mahmood Bokhari, Dr Akhlaq Ansari and others paid tributes to Yasmeen Waseem and said that her services for the national programme were tremendous.

HEALTH DEPTT RAISES BCG QUOTA FOR DISTRICT: The Punjab Health Department increased quota of Bacillus Calmette Guerin (BCG), an anti-tuberculosis vaccine, for the district.  Health sources told APP on Thursday that this time they got a total of 1150 BCG vaccine instead of 1,000 which was its monthly quota. The heath department had sent a request to Director General Health Punjab Dr Nisar Cheema to raise the quota up to 1,500 vaccines monthly. The vaccine usually gets short owing to the increased number of patients, they said adding that the department needed at least 1,500 vaccines for a month. The reminder will soon be sent to the Punjab health department, they added.

COLD, DRY WEATHER FORECAST: The local Met office has forecast cold and dry weather with chances of mist in the morning for the city and its suburbs during the next 24 hours. On Thursday, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded as 21.4 and 3.8 degrees centigrade, respectively. Humidity was recorded 92 per cent at 8am and 48 percent at 5pm.
