Senators salute anti-terror heroes

| Ch Aslam, schoolboy Aitzaz’ valour acknowledged | PM recommends Sitara-e-Shujaat for Hangu student

ISLAMABAD - The Senate on Friday passed a unanimous resolution paying rich tributes to CID SSP Chaudhry Aslam for his valour and actions against terrorists and services to the country, and to the teen Aitzaz Hassan who died while overpowering a suicide bomber to foil the attack on his school.
The resolution condemned the suicide attack on Ch Aslam and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.
The resolution moved by Saeed Ghani termed both the attacks as barbaric. The House offered Fateha for Ch Aslam and Aitzaz Hassan as well as political workers and civilians martyred during the recent days in Karachi.
Earlier‚ the opposition members came down on the Sindh government for failing to establish law and order in Karachi, the country's economic hub. The Awami National Party (ANP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) staged a walkout over the killing of Ch Aslam. They called it failure of the Sindh government to establish law and order in the metropolis.
ANP Senator Shahi Syed demanded an operation in Karachi similar to the ones carried out in Buner and Swat.
Shahi Syed said brave police officer Ch Aslam had been killed and that the police's writ in the city was diminishing. While claiming that Karachi was on the brink of a disaster, he questioned as to why action was not being taken against Taliban and other militant groups.
Meanwhile, the MQM also joined the walkout. Col (rtd) Syed Tahir Mashadi said that Karachi was no more a suitable city to live.
Leader of the House Raja Zafarul Haq and other members from the treasury went out to bring back the senators who had staged the walkout. Chairman Senate Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari adjourned the House till Monday.
Earlier, during the question hour, the House was informed that there are 40 officers of BPS 18 and above who have dual nationalities. Among them are Auditor General of Pakistan, four officers from FBR, six from Textile Industry Division, one from SBP, six from Ministry of Housing and Works, one from Overseas Pakistani Foundation, one from Ministry of Production, seven from Nadra, two from Ministry of Railways, one from CDA, one from Communications Division, one from the Punjab government and six from the Balochistan government.
However, the Chair referred the matter to the standing committee concerned as the Cabinet Division did not give the details sought by the members.
In another development, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday recommended to the President of Pakistan to approve the conferment of Sitara-e-Shujaat on Aitzaz Hassan.
Aitzaz's act in northwestern district of Hangu saved the lives of hundreds of students and established a glowing example of gallantry and patriotism. The 9th grader sacrificed his own life to save schoolmates after stopping the bomber at the school gate, who then blew himself up prematurely. Aitzaz valiantly intercepted the bomber meters from the school. Aitzaz, 14, died in a hospital after sustaining serious injuries.
