ISLAMABAD - Wildcard entrant Abid Ali Saturday became the crowned champion of the First Kulsum Saifullah Khan National Ranking Tennis Championship 2015 after thrashing Davis Cupper Shahzad Khan in straight sets in the final played here at Senator Dilawar Abbas PTF Complex.

Inter Provincial Coordination Minister Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada graced the occasion as the chief guest while PTF president Salim Saifullah Khan along with other dignitaries was also present on the occasion.

Abid completely outplayed seasoned campaigner Shahzad in all departments of the game. In the first game of the first set Shahzad did manage to hold onto his service but from there on it was one-way traffic as Abid never allowed Shahzad any chance to settle down in the match and played aggressive game to win the first set 6-1 in 27 minutes. In the second set Shahzad improved his consistency a bit and took a 2-1 lead but that was only what Shazad could do as Abid won next five games to clinch the set 6-2 and title as well. In U-14 final, Saqib Umer fought back after going one set down to defeat talented Huzaifa Abdur Rehman 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. Shoaib Khan won U-12 title when he defeated Aqib Umer comfortably 6/1, 6/4.

Later, the PTF president thanked the chief guest and other dignitaries who graced occasion. He also elaborated his plans to develop the complex and unearth new talent to make the growth in tennis at grass-root level. Chief guest Riaz showed his satisfaction over standard of play and assured the PTF of every possible assistant by the government.
