HAFIZABAD - As many as 976 proclaimed offender including 269 wanted in heinous crimes were rounded up by the police in the district during 2014.
According to official statistics, there had been marked increase in the incidents of robbery, bike/car snatching, cattle-lifting, theft, burglary, abduction and rape during the outgoing year of 2014 as compared to 2013.
215 abduction cases were registered during 2014 as against 183 in 2013, 51 rape cases were reported in 2014 as against 29 in 2013, 188 robbery cases were reported in 2014 as against 167 in 2013, 167 cattle lifting cases were registered as against 141 in 2013, 312 theft cases were registered in 2014 as against 283 in 2013, 137 burglary cases were reported last year against 95 in corresponding period under review, 100 motorcycle/car snatching/lifting cases were reported during 2014 as against 55 cases in 2013, 143 irrigational water theft cases in 2014 as against 198 in 2013, 201 murder/attempting murder cases were reported during 2014 as against 177 in 2013.
However, the police in the district seized 36 Kalashnikovs, 421 pistol, 121 12-bore guns, 82 rifles, 41 revolvers and 14 carbines from anti-social elements. The police also captured 38.5 kg of heroin, 18 kg of 432 gram opium, 13 kg of chars and 3036 litres of liquor besides unearthing nine working stills and quantity of ‘lahan’ from the accused.
A total of 4669 cases were registered during 2014 as against 4,757 under the corresponding period under review.
