LAHORE - Three Taliban commanders including alleged mastermind of the Wagah border bombing were killed in a successful operation conducted by police and intelligence agencies in the suburb of Lahore in the wee hours of Monday.

Police sources revealed that police contingents along with intelligence operatives raided a hideout of terrorists located near Perth Pull in the Barki police precincts in the wee hours of Monday.

Police and security agencies raided the house after receiving credible intelligence indicating that three Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commanders including Roohullah were hiding there. As police and intelligence operatives reached close to the hideout, the militants opened fire on them with automatic assault rifles. The police and security personnel also retaliated.

Sources said Roohullah alias Qureshi, said to be the mastermind of Wagah border attack, blew himself up while his accomplices were killed during the shootout which continued for a considerable time. “When the fire was stopped, all the three militants were found dead,” sources said. The three militants killed during the armed encounter are said to be the resident of Bajur Agency.

Later, the other militants were identified as Miraj Khan and Omar Farooq. Security sources said that the alleged terrorists were linked to Fazalullah group of TTP. The bodies were moved to the morgue for autopsy.

Security has been stepped up across the provincial metropolis to thwart the nefarious designs of terrorists.

More than 60 people including women and children were killed in a suicide bombing at the Wagah Border on November 02, 2014.
