The elections of district and tehsil bars for the slots of president, vice president and secretaries were held here on Sunday.
Maqsud Ahmed Bhatti was elected as president of Sialkot District Bar Association (DBA), Sarfraz Ahmed Ghuman as secretary general and Tayyub Majeed as joint secretary.
Earlier, Amjad Bajwa was elected unopposed as vice president, Gull Deeba Sahi as finance secretary and Waqas Ali as library secretary.
Likewise, Nasir Ghuman was elected as president and Ammar Bashir Sheikh secretary general of Daska Bar Association. Shees Rana was elected as finance secretary unopposed and Saba Tabassum as library secretary of Daska Bar Association.
Ather Nadeem Cheema was elected as president and Yasir Ahmed Malik as secretary general of Sambrial Bar Association. Nawazish Ali Basra was elected as president and Ghulam Ghaus Bajwa as secretary general of Pasrur Bar Association.
Earlier, Hafiz Imtiaz Hashmi was elected unopposed as vice president, Rana Naveed Asif elected unopposed as auditor and Bilal Sadique was elected unopposed as library secretary of Pasrur Bar Association. Mujtaba Hassan Tatla was elected as president and Daulat Khan Mayo as secretary general of District Bar Association (DBA). In Shakargarh, Abid Bashir was elected as president and Iram Jawad as secretary general of Shakargarh Bar Association.
Ijaz Ahmad Proya once again won the presidential election of Bar Association Wazirabad while Jamshed Sultan Ghumman has been elected as secretary general.
Imtiaz Ahmad Khan and Ahmad Proya of PML-N contested for the seat of president. Ijaz won with the lead of 6 votes. He secured 214 votes while his rival could get 208 votes. Saifullah Cheema and Jamshed Sultan were contested the seat of secretary general which was won by Jamshed Ghumman with 223 votes. His opponent Saifullah Cheema bagged only 198 votes.
A total of 421 out of 507 voters used their right to franchise while two votes were rejected. Naeem Akhtar, Irfan Ahmad Cheema, Noman Cheema, Zaheer Ahmad and Murad Ali have already been elected unopposed as vice president, joint secretary, finance secretary, library secretary and auditor respectively.
In Khanewal, Lawyers Grand Alliance has won seats of president, secretary general and joint secretary. Their competitors United Lawyer’s Alliance won the remaining three seats of vice president, finance secretary and library secretary. Bushra Latif, Ikram Hashmi, Sheikh Akram, Eyed umair Shah, Amir Razzaq, Syed Naveedul Hassan and Syed Mushtaq Gilani were elect as members of District Bar Association Khanewal.
Jamal Nasir was elect as president and Zukafil as secretary general of Jahanain Bar Association, Mehar Aojala was elect as president and Rana Khurram Shahzad as secretary general of Kabirwala Bar Association. In Mian Channu Bar elections, Mehar Aslam was elect as president and Ashraf Sial elect secretary general.
In Kasur, the annual election of District Bar Association was held here in which Chaudhry Munir was elected as President while Salahuddin was elected as general secretary of the bar. Ashraf Ansari was elected as Vice President, Zulfiqar Goga as Joint Secretary while Yaseer was already elected unopposed as Finance Secretary.
In Hafizabad, the Friends Group made a clean sweep in the annual election 2016 of the District Bar Association held here the other day.
According to the press release of chairman election board Khalid Mahmood Bhuller, Muhammad Farooq Khokhar was elected as President defeating his rival Muhammad Shoaib Bhatti by 27 votes. Rai Waqar Ahmad Kharal was elected General Secretary by defeating his rival Umar Khizar Tarar by 20 votes.
Other office bearers elected are: Vice President Muhammad Asghar Mohal, Joint Secretary: Shah Nawaz Madni, Finance Secretary: Khalida Bhatti, Library Secretary: Rai Irfan Ali Kharal.
The police had made foolproof arrangements to maintain peaceful atmosphere at the judicial complex and no untoward incident was reported. However, after winning the election, the lawyers of friends group performed ‘bhangra’ on the tune drums and distributed sweets.
