LAHORE - Politicians should avoid playing over the issue of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) which is a project of great importance for the country, said PML-Q chief Chaudhary Shujaat Hussian yesterday.

In a press statement, Shujaat said, “This project is of high value from our time-tested friend China particularly in the prevailing circumstances when Pakistan is fighting terrorism.” “Our political elite must not support the western forces which have been voicing opposition to the CPEC, besides our neighbour India,” he added.

“The CPEC undoubtedly is a big game changer but unfortunately we are handling it immaturely on the political front. Lack of maturity on this issue can lead to a great disaster. The country has to suffer the shock of the decade if this project is cancelled or delayed,” warned the PML-Q chief. “The country is already suffering from the consequences of so-called consensus which hasn’t let us to start the Kalabagh Dam as yet,” said Shujaat.

“It is unfortunate that we lack national consensus and all the federating units are in opposite directions on national issues,” he added.
