Islamabad - Allama Iqbal Open University will hold an international conference on Pakistani languages in the third week of March to promote national integrity and cohesion.

It will be second such event aimed at maintaining national unity through language and literature, VC Dr Shahid Siddiqui said on Wednesday. It will provide a platform to researchers and academicians to give their input as how to develop language and literature as an instrument of national unity, he said.

Dr Shahid added that the university through educational pursuits fulfilled its national responsibility to influence peoples’ mind to adopt positive and constructive approach in the nation-building task.

The event is being organised by the AIOU department of Pakistani Languages. The participants will deliberate upon the topic of Pakistani languages and colonial literature.

The AIOU is only university in the country that simultaneously provides learning facilities in regional languages, Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashto, Balochi, Brahui and Saraiki, which has turned it into a symbol of national unity. The AIOU extends teaching facility in regional languages at Matric, FA and BA levels. Besides, it also offers short courses in Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashto and Balochi, a statement said.
