KHYBER AGENCY - Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan on Wednesday visited Pak-Afghan border in Landi Kotal and reviewed security measures.
The defence minister was flanked by Inspector General Frontier Corps (IGFC) Major General Waseem Ashraf and Sector Commander Muhammad Arshad.
The federal minister arrived at Landi Kotal by helicopter where he was received by local forces officials. The visiting official examined the border security posts in Mehraban Kalley, Tarkho Kas, and Paindi Cheena and inspected the Big Ben post, located at the border.
Speaking on the occasion, Khurram Dastgir expressed satisfaction over the defence procedures approved at the border and vowed that the countrymen were ready to defend every inch of the motherland and would shed the last drop of their blood for the sake of their country.
He reiterated that effective response would be given to the enemy in case of any border violation, adding by installing the fence at the Pak-Afghan border Pakistan had curtailed terrorism acts in the country.
Earlier, keeping in view the minister’s visit to the town, extra security measures were taken in in Landi Kotal and entry to the public offices including Assistant Political Agent (APA) Landi Kotal, Tehsildar, NADRA, Telephone exchange etc. were strictly prohibited, which multiplied miseries of the local tribesmen.
BRIGADE-LEVEL EXERCISE HELD
INP adds: A brigade-level exercise was held at Jalalpur Jattan for troops ex-Jhelum formation, according to Inter Services Public Relations on Wednesday.
The exercise was aimed to enhance coordination between various components of the formation during the war, the statement read.
Moreover, Commander Rawalpindi Corps visited the exercising troops to see the conduct phase.
The commander hailed operational preparedness and professional competence displayed by the participating troops.
On December 20, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited Bahawalpur to observe winter collective training exercises of the mechanised formation based in the area.
The Army Chief appreciated the high standards of training and professional skills displayed by the Army formation.
During the visit, he said that while the Army is committed to the war on terror, no complacency can be shown regarding preparations for responding to a conventional threat, added ISPR.
Commander Bahawalpur Corps Lieutenant General Sher Afgan also briefed General Bajwa about the training of the Corps for its assigned operational tasks.
