KARACHI - The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) on Wednesday decided to introduce garbage collection system at doorstep.

According to SSWMB spokesperson, initially the board will start the drive on trial basis in union council 25 and 26 of District East. Later, permanent implementation on the drive will be launched step by step in across the city, spokesperson added.

The spokesperson said that during the drive garbage will be lifted from doorstep through cycle-rickshaw as since long the most of the citizen were practicing a wrong act by throwing waste on streets and roads.

He said that Managing Director SSWMB A D Sanjnani, along with Director Solid Waste, Chairman and Municipal Commissioner of District East has inspected the cycle-rickshaw which would be use in the garbage lifting system.

Spokesmen further informed that Director Solid Waste Nafis Khan has briefed the Chairman District East Moid Anwer about the drive adding that 12 cycle-rickshaws will work in a union council while plastic bags will also distribute among the residents of the area to avoid waste dumping outside the houses. He said that after lifting waste and garbage from houses the cycle-rickshaws will shift it at dumping site, later garbage lifting vehicle will lift the waste dumping it at landfill site. He said that Chairman Moid Anwer has appreciated the initiative of SSWMB terming the drive helpful to provide relief and better environment to the masses.
