Islamabad: The National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) formally opened a new museum office block at Shakarparian, a statement said.

Senator Usman Khan Kakar, chairman Senate functional committee on problems of less-developed areas, inaugurated the new block along with Dr Fouzia Saeed, executive director of Lok Virsa.

In his remarks, Senator Usman Kakar appreciated the work of Lok Virsa in promoting and projecting indigenous folk culture of Pakistan, especially that of less-developed areas.

He said that Lok Virsa deserved commendation for collecting and preserving what we inherited from our forefathers. Each province and region has its own cultural identity which is beautifully presented by Lok Virsa at Heritage Museum, he  said.–Staff Reporter

Over 280kgs drugs seized in countrywide raids

ISLAMABAD: Anti Narcotics Force Pakistan seized over 286 kilograms of narcotics valuing over Rs386 million in international market and arrested 28 persons including an Afghan national and a Nigerian lady involved in drug smuggling.

According to a statement, cases were registered at respective ANF police stations and investigations were underway. The ANF also impounded nine vehicles in 28 counter-narcotics raid conducted across the country. The seized drugs comprised over 269 kilograms of hashish, 3.22 kilograms of heroin, 2.65 kilograms of amphetamine and 3.13 kilograms of methamphetamine, the statement added.

According to details, ANF Rawalpindi in collaboration with Airport Security Force arrested an accused identified as Umar Gul, a resident of Swabi, at Benazir Bhutto International Airport and recovered 1.225 kilograms of amphetamine from his travelling bag. He was to take off for Saudi Arabia by Saudi Airlines flight.                    

In another operation, the ANF Rawalpindi intercepted a motorcycle at Kohat Road, near Railway Phattak, Jhand and recovered 1.05 kilograms of hashish from Siddique Akbar, resident of Attock.–APP

In the third operation, the ANF Rawalpindi stopped a motorcycle from an educational institution in Attock and recovered 2 kilograms of hashish from possession of Noor and Habib, both residents of Attock.

In fourth operation, the ANF Rawalpindi Intercepted a motorcycle near Alnoor Hospital, Fateh Jhang and recovered 1.8 kilograms of hashish from Zahid Iqbal, resident of Nowshehra.

In fifth operation, the ANF Rawalpindi recovered 1.2 kilograms of hashish from possession of Iqbal and Abid Ali, both resident of Attock, and Dilawar, resident of Rawalpindi. In sixth operation, ANF Rawalpindi arrested Amir Khan, resident of Swabi, at Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad and recovered 1.425 kilograms of amphetamine from his travelling bag. The accused intended to flay for Saudi Arabia.
