Mudassir, Umer in U-18 Snooker final

ISLAMABAD -  Punjab’s Mudassir Sheikh and M Umer Khan qualified for the final of the Jubilee Insurance 3rd National Junior U-18 Snooker Championship after defeating their respective opponents in the semifinals played here at PSB Billiards & Snooker Hall, Pakistan Sports Complex on Wednesday.

The grand final will be played today (Thursday) 10am. In the first semifinal, Mudassar overcame compatriot Shahzaib Malik 4-1. He recorded two big breaks in two consecutive frames (4th and 5th) of 59 and 65. The 65 was the highest break of the championship so far, as previous was of 60 made by Ahsan Ramzan of Punjab. Umer Khan of Punjab defeated M Hamza Ilyas 4-2 in the second semifinal. The score was 70-28, 58-23, 15-63, 48-58, 73-01, 78-14.

Earlier in the quarterfinals, Shahzaib Malik (Pjb) defeated M Rafey of Sindh 4-0, Sheikh Muhammad Mudassir (Pjb) beat Kamran Albert Masih (KP) 4-0, M Umer Khan (Pjb) beat Ahsan Raza (Pjb) 4-3. It was very well contested match as it was decided on pink ball. Ahsan Ramzan made two breaks of 51 and 55 in the 4th and 5th frame. In the 4th and last quarterfinal, M Hamza Ilyas (Pjb) defeated M Sheheryar Abbas (Pjb) 4-3. Again it was a good match to watch as both youngsters Hamza of Lahore and Sheheryar of Jhelum displayed excellent game. Both were tipped as the national stars.
