MULTAN-The Multan Development Group (MDG) warned on Wednesday it would bring no-confidence motion against the Multan mayor for his alleged corruption and incapability to run the office.
The threat was hurled by the members of the group and chairmen and members of Municipal Corporation Multan including Risalat Khan Sherwani, Sheikh Rafiq, Akhtar Alam Qureshi, Zarrar Khan and others. while addressing a news conference here at Multan Press Club. The MDG is created by some Chairmen of union councils, who belong to the ruling PML-N but they are unhappy with the mayor.
The annoyed chairmen told the journalists that the group had constituted a nine-member committee to meet with the CM and raise demand for the removal of the mayor. “If our demand is not accepted, we’ll bring a no-confidence resolution against the mayor in municipal corporation,” they declared.
They claimed that over 50 chairmen had assured the group of their support and the final line of action was being chalked out. They further revealed that a committee had also been constituted to win the support of as many members of the house as possible. They said that the mayor and his aides set new records of corruption. They said that the city had turned into a big garbage dump, roads were broken, sewerage system was completely choked and the mayor was missing.
They said that the corrupt group created hurdles in way of Municipal Corporation meeting and although the convener had approved a meeting on January 9, the Chief Officer did not make arrangements. “They don’t want the house to convene because they fear accountability. They know they will be questioned on their corruption,” they maintained.
It may not be out of place to mention here that a group of MDG had stormed the offices of mayor and chief officer of Municipal Corporation but both the officials disappeared before their arrival. “We went to the mayor’s office to ask him as to why the meeting was not held despite convener’s approval,” they added.
Meanwhile, the mayor Naveedul Haq Arrain and his brother former provincial minister Ch Abdul Waheed Arrain tasked some Chairmen to reconcile with the annoyed group of chairmen. “They have been given the mandate even to broker a deal, if needed, with the angry group and bring them back on treasury benches at any cost,” sources disclosed.
