HAFIZABAD-The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) arrested Rana Shahid Parvaiz, sub inspector district market committee, on the charge of illegal allotment of 45 shops to traders in New Grain Market, Madhrianwala Road here.

According to the ACE, Sheikh Mustafa Ishaq, a local trader, had complained that Secretary Market Committee Shehbaz Cheema, Sub Inspector Rana Shahid Parvaiz and others with the connivance of former administrator Shoaibullah Tarar had allotted 45 shops on bogus licences. Investigation proved the allegation true and cases were registered against the officials. Rana Shahid was arrested while Shehbaz Cheema and Ihsan Chattha succeeded in getting pre-arrest bails.

1,836 POs held: The district police arrested 1,836 proclaimed offenders and busted 151 members of 51 different dacoit gangs during the previous year.

The police also recovered booty and different stolen articles and vehicles worth Rs89.6 million.

Addressing a press conference, DPO Dr Sardar Ghias Gull said that due to effective steps taken by the district police, there had been witnessed a significant decrease in crimes. He said the police had arrested 1,039 criminals wanted in different cases and seized stolen articles worth Rs67.9 million. As many as 1,086 peddlers were also held with huge amount of drugs including 44kg of opium, 33kg of heroin, 425kg of charas and 4,133 bottles of liquor, he added.

He said that the police also conducted 388 search operations under National Action Plan (NAP); apprehended 1,701 suspects and registered cases against them. Police recovered 32 Kalashnikovs, 71 rifles, 383 pistols, 19 revolvers, 15 carbines and 3,077 rounds from them.
