Lahore -  Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Wednesday recalled Ahmed Shehzad while ignored top performer of domestic cricket Kamran Akmal in the 15-man squad for the three-match Twenty20 international series against New Zealand.

Ahmed Shahzad, 26, was dropped for the third and final Twenty20 against Sri Lanka in Lahore late last November, but his recent form helped him regain his place. He was also not a part of the five-match ODI series against New Zealand.

On the other hand, 35-year-old Kamran was not so lucky, despite being the highest run scorer in National Twenty20 with 432 runs last November. He smashed a double century in a domestic One-Day Cup match last week, but his consecutive performances couldn’t impress the selectors, reasons best known to them.

Imad Wasim will continue with his rehabilitation after a knee injury kept him out of the ongoing ODI series. About the team selection, chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq said: “Imad Wasim was yet to recover from his knee injury and was told to continue his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder M Nawaz, who was brought into the ODI squad as a like-for-like replacement for Imad, last played a T20I in September 2017. “M Nawaz has been named to replace Imad Wasim. Sohaib Maqsood was not considered for selection due to a back injury, and will undergo rehabilitation at the NCA,” Inzamam added.

Apart from Shehzad's inclusion, the only other change from the ODI series is the inclusion of Umar Amin. Amin, who has played four Tests, 15 ODIs and 11 T20Is, has made little impact. However, in his last T20I appearance, he did score a 37-ball 45 that had helped Pakistan get off to a strong start while batting first.

Pakistan team has lost its first two ODIs already and another loss would mean a series loss at the hands of the clinical hosts. The third ODI will now be played in Dunedin on Saturday (January 13). Sarfraz Ahmed will lead the T20 side. The first match is in Wellington on January 22, followed by Auckland on January 25 and Mount Maunganui on January 28.

Pakistan T20 Squad: Sarfraz Ahmed (catp), Fakhar Zaman, Ahmed Shehzad, Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Harris Sohail, M Hafeez, M Nawaz, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Umar Amin, Aamer Yamin, M Aamir, Hasan Ali, Rumman Raees.
