LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has taken strict notice of the violation of the decision of minimum wages of workers by factory owners and directed Secretary Labour to conduct a survey of factories and seek information from labourers and submit him a report in this regard. He also directed Provincial Minister Labour to evolve schemes for setting up new labour colonies as well as social security hospitals and social welfare schools in each district for providing modern facilities of health and education to labourers and their children. He issued these instructions during a briefing given to him by Punjab Social Security Health Management Company at Chief Minister's Secretariat, here on Thursday. Minister for Labour Punjab, Muhammad Ashraf Sohna, Member National Assembly Jehangir Khan Tareen, Secretaries of Health, Labour and Education departments, office-bearers of Punjab Social Security Health Management Company, Commissioner Punjab Employees Social Security Institution as well as prominent industrialists participated in the meeting. The chief minister said that the govt would start health insurance scheme for extending health cover to labourers and wants private sector to submit proposals in this regard. He said that Punjab Social Security Health Management Company is providing medical facilities to thousands of labourers and their families through setting up modern hospitals at Muzaffargarh and Manga Mandi, which is a commendable step of private sector. He said that the rights of labourers should be upheld at any cost and they should be provided modern health and education facilities. He said that labourers are hardworking and dedicated workers and it is necessary to acknowledge their services. The chief minister said financial and performance audit of the hospitals set up for labourers in private and public sectors would be conducted by independent sources so as to evaluate their efficiency. He said that time has come to reset our priorities and direction and divert basic facilities to the labourers as the aim of increase in industrial production cannot be realized without welfare of labourers. The Chief Minister directed setting up of more dispensaries near factories so that labourers do not have to travel long distances for treatment of minor diseases. He directed Labour Minister to evolve new schemes for setting up more labour colonies for resolving residential problems of labourers. He further ordered setting up of social security hospitals in all districts of the province for providing health facilities to labourers and their families as well as establishment of social welfare schools for extending educational facilities to the children of working community.
