Prime Minister, Yusuf Raza Gilani has said that the population growth target for the next five-year has been set at 1.55 percent. Addressing a National Convention on the eve of World Population Day at the Islamabad prime minister secretariat here, Prime Minister, Yusuf Raza Gilani said that the government would fully provide financial and political assistance to the population welfare program. Family welfare centre would be set up in every Tehsil and men/women social workers would be recruited in all Union Councils. The Convention was told that the existing population of the country stood at 160 million, which swelling by 2.9 million every year, would reach at 200 million by 2020. The prime minister was also presented Demographic and Health Survey. Awards on this occasion were also distributed among people drawn from different sections of the society working for the welfare of population.
