RAWALPINDI - The English Department of Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) organised a two-day workshop on the topic of "Research Methodology in Bilingualism" at the university campus here on Thursday. Besides FJWU vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Saeeda Asadullah Khan, a large number of researchers and teachers from FJWU and other universities participated in this workshop. The department of English of FJWU has also established a three-year link programme 2007-09 with the school of education, University of Birmingham (UoB), UK, under the HEC/BC link scheme and the workshop was part of this link. The link coordinators from the UoB, UK, Prof Dr Marilyn Martin Jones, a well recoganised international expert in the field of Bilingualism and Bilingual Studies and Dr Gill Cressey were the resource persons for the workshop.     Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and Arts, Dr Samian Amin Qadir welcomed the participants. She also briefed the audience about the objectives of the workshop in detail. She said that the purpose of the workshop was to highlight the concerns and research areas pertaining to Bilingualism and workshop and its effects. She was of view that the link between the two universities was very useful and the workshop will also be an enriching experience for the participants. The VC of FJWU, Dr Saeede Asadullah, remarked that FJWU was committed to promote the research culture in higher education. In line with its vision the university frequently organizes such endeavors that support its commitment to promote the research culture in higher education, she added. The workshop will also help the participants in analyzing the effects and influences that language had on culture and identity, VC FJWU further said. The closing session of this workshop will be held today (Friday).
